Street sport facilities lowers the threshold

A study of the GAME Houses shows that the architecture of the Houses brings people together from different backgrounds, and additionally, the Houses lower the bar for participation, which leads to more people being introduced to positive sports communities. Further, it is concluded that GAME contributes with new ways of doing sports and culture facilities in the municipalities. Finally, the evaluation shows that it takes an extra effort for the GAME Houses to reach girls, which is something GAME is continuously developing methods for.

PROJECT HAS CREATED SAFE PLACES TO PLAY FOR CHILDREN IN GHANA

In Ghana, GAME and DUNK are empowering youth leaders by offering a free education to become volunteer coaches and role models in street sports and civil society. The young volunteers lead practices in street football and street basketball for local children and youths in GAME Zones in Ghana.

STREET SPORTS AS ARENA FOR DEVELOPING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Program: The Danish Platform for Street Sports

GAME’s Danish Platform for Street Sports has since 2015 supported more than 1.038 DIY street sports projects, with a total of more than 20.5 million DKK, supported by Nordea-fonden and Danish Ministry of Culture. A report by Active Research concludes that the program’s core of supporting locally anchored street sports entrepreneurs creates an incubator for new, active communities, that can work as inclusive arenas for civic engagement and the creation of democratic values.

PROJECT IN SOMALILAND HAS TRAINED FEMALE ROLE MODELS IN STREET SPORT

A new evaluation report from 2021 shows the potentials and success of the implementation of YESSS project in Somaliland

Youth-led Street Sports enhances democratic and equal society

Program: Youth-lead Street Sports for All in Lebanon

The program ‘Youth Lead Street Sports for All’ (2017) in GAME Lebanon aims for a more democratic and equal society. The program has educated 170 Playmakers with 48% being female role models of street sports. 3075 children were activated through 12 local GAME Zones. The project aimed to battle gender inequality in sport, and by the end of the program 93% of children agreed that boys and girls should have the same opportunities to play sports.

SOCIOECONOMIC INVESTMENT MODEL shows great return from GAME Program

Program: Friendships on Asphalt

Participants in a GAME program with parkour activities for children and youth with psychosocial challenges experienced personal and social development. After the program was concluded, they were more physically active, had increased motivation for participation in sports and more were enrolled in sports associations than prior to the intervention. A socioeconomic evaluation shows that already four years after the program, the social return on investment equalises the expenses of the program due to decreased need of health services.

A research project shows that community involvement will help increase youth participation in sports

Program: The Playmaker Program

Since 2018 GAME and Steno Diabetes Centre (SDCC) have worked together in a research collaboration, with funds from Novo Nordisk Foundation, to gain new knowledge on how to support volunteers, increase stability in GAME Zones, and include more youth in the sports communities in GAME.

GAME HOUSES CREATE SAFE A SPACE TO PLAY AND LEARN LIFE SKILLS

User experiences and data from the GAME Facility in Copenhagen (2015) shows that 74% of the users are active more than 3 times a week (aligned with WHO recommendation level) and has an average of 9 hours of physical activities, this being higher than the general population. The high level of physical activity can be seen as a result of the facility’s flexibility and diversity, and the report shows that GAME not only provides users with access to sports activities but also creates a sense of community and acquired life skills.
